Lisbon Games Week / GameDevCamp

Last week we attended two awesome events. One as exhibitors, the other as attendees.
The first was Lisboa Games Week, the second was GameDevCamp.

Let’s start with the first:

Lisboa Games Week took place in FIL, in Lisbon. It’s the biggest gaming event in Portugal, and as such, it was important for us to be there.

We got the chance to be there as we were selected by the Indiedome team. There were many great projects there, so it was really cool to be selected for exhibitor.
What brought was there was our latest project: Those Who Remain.
Although we haven’t officially announced the game, we wanted to show it to the public to collect feedback. It’s really important for us at this stage to understand what works and what doesn’t, if the gameplay is fun and the story makes sense.
The feedback was positive and very useful: folks enjoyed the game, and we took a lot of notes by watching them play. These notes will result in important improvements to the overall experience of the game.

Those Who Remain was in the “scary” area of Indiedome. Check out the cool props:

We also met new game dev teams and amazing projects. The PlayStation talents finalists were right beside the Indiedome area, and right there was the proof that the quality of games developed in Portugal is increasing year by year.

On Saturday Ricardo from our team was invited to the stage by Paulo Gomes from Bigmoon Entertainment. Paulo was talking about Bigmoon’s lineup, and invited Ricardo to talk a bit about Syndrome, which was co-developed by both teams.

Speaking of Syndrome, the VR version of the game was being exhibited on both the Bigmoon stand and on Playstation’s. There was always a line of folks waiting to play it!

Four full days at FIL, great event.

Then on Friday 24th we were on GameDevCamp in Universidade Lusófona, also in Lisbon.
This time we were there just for the talks and networking. It’s always nice to talk with fellow devs and catch up on their projects.
This is probably the best event to do so, as a lot of folks in the industry usually attend it.

Besides the very interesting talks, there was also the first Nordic Game Discovery Contest in Portugal.
Four finalists, 5 minute pitches, one selected. The winner will be at Malmö in May.

Good things happening in Portugal.
